Virtual Pro Bono Reading Day
27 October 2020 @ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The Cat in the Hat knows all about reading but do you? The Midlands Reading Consortium is dedicated to spreading the word about the value of reading to children in grades K-2. You can help with that message by signing up for a 30. minute reading slot!
Instructions and details
Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. . Please read carefully.
Thank you for agreeing to participate in the Pro Bono Virtual Read-A Thon. In order to not disappoint the kids please read and follow these instructions carefully
Now that you have signed up for a reading slot, your name and email has been sent to Kimberly House. 803-758-6983 Khouse@UWAY.org
Ms. House is the MRC Executive Director.
She will be sending you a short video to watch. This will help you understand how to read to the kids using the technology in place
A few days BEFORE your assigned time slot you will need to go contact Ms. House and go to the United Way Building on Blanding Street to pick up the actual books you will read. They will be the ones that are matched for your particular classroom
A day before or on the day of the event Ms. House will be sending you a link to the teacher classroom online platform. Allow plenty of time to log in and get connected.
READ, smile and enjoy the experience. Remember you are serving as a role model for this classroom. Make sure your attire and background are appropriate, ie. No beer bottles on the kitchen counter. I am pretty sure that the arrival of a pet would be appreciated and get you lots of squeals of delight.
A few reminders
If you don’t show up and connect you leave everyone hanging and it looks bad for the law school and the Pro Bono Program. And it disappoints the kids.
If a true emergency arrives, let Ms. House and me know ASAP.
Read with enthusiasm. Remember they can see you and can ‘read’ your cues! If you are not enjoying the experience, they will also be bored.
No, you cannot pick a school. The MRC is in 27 different schools and has a very small staff. Their hands are full.
